The Underwater museum in Side
Turkey is famous for its museums, not only on land but also underwater.
The Underwater museum of Side is a diving paradise. Even though there is no such natural beauty in the Mediterranean such as in the Red Sea in Egypt, Turkey can offer you to enjoy the sculptures hidden under water and made from a special resistant material which are both durable and harmless to the underwater creatures. In Manavgat, Side, at a depth of between 12 and 20 metres, at a distance of one and a half miles from the shoreline.
The underwater museum is divided into 5 themes and consists of 117 exhibits, among which you can see the statue of Poseidon, three and a half meters high and weighing 50 tons, and a caravan of camels – the symbol of international trade, for which Side was famous, the statue of Mevlana, and even a statue of a blooming garden dedicated to the children – refugees from Syria who were lost at sea.
It is not possible to enter this museum on a private yacht because of the difficulty of anchoring in that area – the figures can be easily damaged. There are special museum ships that know the safe “parking” spots. Underwater enthusiasts will also need a diving certificate.
