The sailing yacht is a romance. Yet it’s hardly possible to create a romantic atmosphere when you are staying 24/7 with a strange person – skipper – onboard. The solution is quite simple – to obtain yourself a licence for driving a yacht and enjoy your vacation fully. What should be done first?
Boat licence can be obtained in your residential country and can be differed from the boat type (motor/sailing), its length (up to 7m/ up to 24m), offshore distance, format of the event (regatta/cruise) and the usage country (international/ domestic).
To charter yacht in Europe, or in Türkiye, the international licence such as IYT, RYA or ISSA is required. Their branches are located in different parts of the world, so you can check the nearest in your country on official website. The study consists of 2 parts: acquiring the theory and practising this knowledge: the theory can be learned on-line, but for practice you have to come to the sea. There are lots of options for practice places, so the price will also depend on the location.
However, you will not be allowed to wheel as captain immidiatelly: to participate in the skipper course you must logge over 200 nautical miles and 10 days at sea. So you need to start from the basics – to get the international crew certificate, where you will learn all necessary things all people aboard must know.
Obtaining the skipper yacht licence is a long and not cheap process, but the horizon which is opened before you, fully recoup the cost of your hard work and material resources spent on it.
