Heat stroke. How to avoid it?

Heat stroke. How to avoid it?

Heat stroke is a general overheating of the body, the symptoms of which are weakness, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, hot and dry skin, and shortness of breath.

However, the main problem is that if a person is on a yacht, all of above symptoms can easily be confused with ordinary motion sickness, while heat strokes can even be fatal!

What to do to avoid it:

  • Use headwear. Importantly, they should be ventilated and at the same time fit snugly so you don’t catch them in the sea later.
  •  Use sunscreen. Choose the required SPF protection level keeping in mind the over-reflection of the sun’s rays from the water so even in the shade of the flybridge you can easily get sunburned.
  • Wear sunglasses. As well as affecting your brain receptors, you will at the very least be uncomfortable being on board and squinting all day for the reason described above.
  • Drink plenty of water. Water is a cooler for the whole body and promotes heat exchange.
  • Wear clothes made of natural fabrics only. Such clothes absorb sweat well and allow the body to breathe without accumulating heat.

If a heat stroke does occur, the first thing to do is to inform the crew, who will immediately take care of the victim. Never hide your condition from them!

Be healthy and have a great holiday!
