Why it is necessary to tip the crew?
Everyone feels good when they are thanked. For their work, their service, their impeccable service.
And a tip is also a kind of gratitude.
It motivates the whole crew to give 120%! After all, these 4-5 people on board are not just waiters or skippers. The work you see is the top of the iceberg. Apart from the external service, there are many more responsibilities for each of the crew members:
- keep an eye on the technical condition of the boat, because it is a complex machine,
- keep an eye on the physical condition of guests because they can get seasick,
- watch out for the slightest change in the weather because it’s the sea and, as it is said, you can’t afford to mess with it.
Tipping is also an added motivation, as it shows that the efforts and work of the team are appreciated and acknowledged. This will inspire additional efforts in the future to provide an even higher level of service and comfort to their guests.
Tipping is an additional income for the crew, as they are ordinary people for whom a yacht is a job for which they are paid a regular wage.
Why does the guest need it? Simple – because leaving a tip gives you the status of a generous and, more importantly, grateful customer, no matter how much you leave. The crew will remember you and will be happy to welcome you back on your next cruise.
There is, of course, no specific monetary gratuity, but there is an unspoken tradition of the amount varying between 5% and 20% depending on the cost of the tour. If you like the service, the atmosphere and the crew on the boat, at the end of the tour you can thank the whole crew by putting money in a special TIP BOX or giving it personally to the captain.
