He first sailed these waters back in 1945, joining one of Turkey’s earliest blue voyages alongside writer Cevat Sakir Kabaagacli, known as the “Fisherman of Halicarnassus.” Nearly three decades later, in 1974, Eyuboglu returned to what was then Tasyaka Bay and carved a striking image into the rock on the bay’s north slope — a fish formed from six different animals. The bay has been known as Bedri Rahmi Bay ever since, and the carving is still visible from the water today.
Right next to the rock carving, a cold freshwater spring flows into the bay, cooling the warm seawater around it. Sailors traditionally used this spring to top up their fresh water supplies during a stop.
